Dave Joseph

Throughout our high school years, Dave Joseph had a flair for the dramatic. In speech class he put on the most engaging presentations, such as portraying a bedouin merchant trying to get a balky camel up and going in the morning. He was also the star of the Senior class play, Turn Back the Clock, where he portrayed the role of Mr. Arthur Palmer, the head of a family of dysfunctional children.

In the winter of our Senior year, Dave tried out and won an appearance on WHIZ-TV, the local TV station.  He also attended workshops on acting methods and according to the March-April 1955 edition of the Observer, Dave was heading off to study dramatics in California at the Pasadena Playhouse where he matriculated in September, 1955.  The Playhouse, by the way, trained such notable actors as Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, Raymond Burr, Charles Bronson, Victure Mature, Sally Struthers and Jamie Farr. Coincidentally, Dave would have been a classmate of Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman who attended Pasadena Playhouse around the same time but Dave soon decided to return to his hometown.

Acording to the official biography of Gene Hackman, "in 1956, Hackman decided to become an actor; he joined the Pasadena Playhouse in California. It was there that he forged a friendship with another aspiring actor Dustin Hoffman."

The following articles appeared in the senior year editions of the Rosecrans Observer. The class had expected Dave to leverage his acting talent in later life.
